HARNESSING FEAR

Fear is both our friend and foe. When it serves its true purpose, it keeps us safe. But when left unchecked and unchallenged, it can stagnate our growth. Fear keeps us stuck and afraid of failure, success, loneliness, change, and embarrassment. Just think about all of the love, connection, growth, adventure, creation, and innovation that cannot surface — simply because we are afraid. 

But here’s the good news: we CAN harness fear and have it serve us. That is what Scare Your Soul is all about.

Through Scare Your Soul’s unique six-step methodology (“Climbing the LADDER”) we can reframe what is holding us back and replace negative memories and associations with new, positive ones.

Let’s start at the beginning. Let’s talk about FEAR. 

Self-created, toxic fear is the main enemy of our growth. It comes in many forms, so you might see it rising up in your life as something like:

  • Fear of failure 
  • Fear of success
  • Fear of loneliness
  • Fear of rejection
  • Fear of change or uncertainty 
  • Fear of embarrassment or comparison 
  • Fear of financial loss 
  • Fear of regret 

Feeling fear is both natural and normal. So, as much as we want to conquer or eradicate these fears, they will always be with us. The key then, as Susan Jeffers says, is to “feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Take a moment to think: What is one fear that you are having right now that is holding you back from achieving or accomplishing something that you would want? 

Now, write out that fear, and what possible outcome it is blocking:

If you are like us, it probably feels better just to write it out. We start to gain power over our fears when we identify them. And it allows us to create a plan to tackle them. We shrink their power. 

Now, take a moment and reflect on this: What small (and we mean TINY) action could you take RIGHT NOW that would move you toward pushing your comfort zone and tackling that fear?
